The F-150 lost really hard, as in wrapped around the post. Traffic light didn’t budge. (no pictures I was driving)

Further late 70's awesomeness/nonsense:

Also, my wrist pain is getting worse. Pro tip: don’t grab a lathe spindle, you’ll have a bad time.

Goodnight Oppo!

F150: *crashes into traffic light* “I did it, son! Am I being cool yet?”

Mustang: “Ugh, daaaaaaaad, you’re embarrassing me.”

On my first day in the shop, my instructor told me: “Most of the time, this machine doesn’t give a fuck about a block of metal. That goes double for your stupid fleshy bits. Keep your sausages outta the grinder.” Unfortunately, not everyone listened. No permanent damage, but a few close calls. Be safe out there!

In high school, I watched as a kid almost cut his finger clean off with a band saw.

One morning when driving to high school a female friend in a younger grade had her parents go out of town. This gave her the opportunity to purloin the keys to daddy’s Corvette. Which she used to rear-end a garbage truck. I kind of pointed and laughed (as I was next to her at the stop light) and I drove to school. She was mad that I didn’t get out of my 1986 Buick and assist. I probably missed an opportunity for hormone-fueled shenanigans by failing to assist her.

Schadenfreude caught up with me as I rear-ended an F250 in my Audi S4 several years later.

Wow, traffic lights are usually a break-away design, it should have toppled.

My wood shop teachers safety demonstration consisted of firing up the table saw, throwing a chicken leg at it, and us watching bits of meat and flesh go everywhere. Then he turned and said, “Don’t do that. That hurts.”

I never had the guts to do something similar.

To clarify, I was machining male and female threaded parts. To test that the threads were clean I’d put them together while the pieces was still in the chuck. This took forever by hand (6" of 10 threads an inch). The machinist I was working with suggested that I run the lathe while holding on to the other half and let the machine do the work for me.

That was great (I did 24 pieces that way, no problem) until the threads caught without any warning (usually I’d feel some resistance right before). The piece I had a hold of went from 0-400 RPM. It cut me up pretty good in the process.

And yeah, the machine would’ve given zero fucks:

The base was at least 24-30 inches in diameter, I was surprised it didn’t break away.

Band saw guards: oh your piece is 1" thick, better raise the guard to 9" /s

I just realized that Oldsmobile did the waterfall grille about 30 years before Lincoln .

The Olds version is a pretty good adaptation for late 70's styling though.
